It doesn’t get much better than open world gaming. The bigger the better. Its safe to say with the success of games like Zelda Breath of the wild, The Witcher 3, and Horizon Zero Dawn we can expect great things from upcoming open world games 2018. There are over 30 new open world games all looking great. I decided to pick a few from each category to discuss. Some of these games look ridiculously amazing. Let’s get this started!
1. Claw Hunter (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
The story takes place in the 17th century on a island where prehistoric life has survived and prospered. That’s right DINOSAURS. You play as a tribal hunter trying to survive and complete his cinematic story. This action adventure is really reminiscent of Turok with a mix of Uncharted’s mechanics. Not only will you be facing raptors, t-rex, and other dinosaurs. You will have to worry about rival human tribes trying to kill you as well. Not all the dinosaurs are your enemy some can be ridden or even flown through the skies.
2. Bio Mutant (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
You play as a humanoid cat like creature who uses an array of crazy gadgets in his arsenal. No not ratchet and clank. As you explore this open world you will encounter many enemies. His gadgets include gliders, mechanical golem’s, and even a giant mechanical hand that you ride around. The hand can shot bullets at his enemies by pointing. Interesting to say the least.
3. Metro Exodus (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
You start in a post apocalyptic world in this massive survival game. The game play is first person and very intense. It can be both slow and fast paced. Basically stuff can pop off at any second. This has some of the best graphics of all the games I reviewed. Did I mention it’s probably going to be VR compatible. This one took me by surprise by how cool it looks.
4. Anthem (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
You and your partner explore this alien invaded world in your badass exo suits equipped with crazy abilities and weapons. You can choose from multiple suits that each have different strengths and weaknesses. The suits are upgradable and you pick up new guns and parts as you progress. Multi targeted homing missiles and massive mortars will help you blow your way through this bad boy.
5. The Crew 2 (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
You play as a event coordinator for extreme sports. Jets, planes, cars, boats, and amvs all at your disposal. The developers brag that all of the USA can be explored. That would be interesting to see. I also like how anything you do in the game adds experience and progress’s you further. So if your just stunting in your lambo or doing flips in a jet you will get experience for it.
6. Wild West Online (pc)
This pc exclusive sets you in the wild west of good old USA. You take your cowboy through towns and the open country. You can team up with friends ambush some bad guys to collect bounties. Looks pretty strategic because one shot and your dead. You can also enjoy some drinks in the local salon, partake in gambling games, and even take a lady of the evening upstairs. Giddy up cowboys!
7. Kingdom Come: Deliverance (ps4, xbox 1, pc)
Come hither my foe and taste my steel. This medieval knight can choose his path through multiple quest options. Good or evil doesn’t matter in the dark ages. The fighting mechanics are similar to games like For Honor. As you choose 6 directions to swing at your foe and counter his attacks. Finish ground foes with a resounding stab through the gut.
8. Ghost of Tsushima (ps4)
This open world game takes place in feudal Japan during the invasion of the Mongolians. Based on actual events this game is said to be massive. Anywhere you can see you can go. Discover and defend villages to regain your honor as a Samurai. The entire island of Japan is available to you. Personally this is my most anticipated open world title. I love everything Japanese and Samurai’s are my favorite warrior. That with the intense cinematic and story make for an exciting new release.
