Loot Crates Return of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (EA)
EA announced when Loot Crates will be returning to Star Wars Battlefront 2 (EA). After the firestorm of angry customers, and poor sales because of it, EA pulled all microtransactions in an attempt to save their game. Those with early access took to the internet to let others know of how predatory the progression system was. People who hopes to see the series return to how it was before EA took control, where disappointed. Players could see how someone with money could buy their way up the Leaderboard over those who worked hard for what they earned. They discarded a fair system for all in favor of a “Pay for the Convenience” of skipping gameplay by paying more money. While they may have pulled a stunt like this on a racing title and gotten away with it, they pulled this on a game that reached to a much larger audience. Their plans to maximize profits at the expense of their customers fell apart.
March 21st, Return of the Loot Crate
EA has said for some time that Loot Crates will return. After all, they want to make as much money off of their customers as possible. March 21, 2018 is the day that Loot Crates will return to Star Wars Battlefront 2 (EA). However, it will not return in the same way as it was originally intended. Loot Crates WILL NOT be purchasable. Additionally, they WILL NOT give you Star Cards. You can only earn Loot Crates through daily logins, completing challenges, meeting milestones, etc. These crates will ether give you Credits (in-game currency) or Cosmetic Items.
What About Star Cards!?
While Star Cards will not be included in Loot Boxes, they will be earned through gameplay. You WILL NOT be able to buy them with Crystals (Premium Currency). This was one of the biggest complaints about how SWBF2 was going to be released. It allowed players to buy Star Cards through Loot Crates to buff their stats against players who wanted to EARN their victories. You will earn XP for Classes and Heroes you play as. When you level up your Class/Hero, you get a skill point used to unlock/upgrade an eligible Star Card you wish you equip.
What can I spend Crystals on and what about what I’ve already unlocked!?
Crystals (premium currency) can be used to purchase new Appearances (outfits). This will be part of the update in April, so it will not be available in March. You’ll be able to buy them with Crystals, but will be available for purchase through Credits (In-Game Currency). Nothing should be locked behind a pay-wall. Additionally, anything you’ve unlocked so far in SWBF2 will still be available after the March 21st update. There are no plans for a full reset on what players have earned in the game to date.
A New Hope…or Empire Strikes Back?
EA hopes this change will bring customers back to a game they have invested millions into. The public outcry far exceeded anything they apparently anticipated and are trying their best to earn back player trust. Will this save SWBF2, or is it too late? At the same time, will there still be some form of greed from EA, trying to pry more money from our grasp? EA has driven their reputation through the mud and deep under the ground. The public opinion of EA is beyond poor or bad at this point. Maximizing revenue, and pleasing investors, has been so important for EA. EA has been seen as one of the worst companies in America (possibly for the 3rd time). While some may see this update as a New Hope for this game, other’s look upon this update with skepticism.
